Start by making a homemade Easter Basket with your kids! This saves some money and it is fun! Your kids will love it! I’m sure you have some old gift bags left over which are tucked away from an old birthday bash or perhaps a beach pail. Well, it’s time to re-vamp them. Get out the scissors, paper and glue! Gather up random materials you have laying around the house such as ribbon, buttons, beads, or cloth. Get creative! Your kids will enjoy making a special homemade project and it’s a great way to teach them about re-using items. Reduce. Re-use. Re-cycle. Have fun!

2. The “Green Thumb” Basket

Who doesn’t love gardening? I love good food and good food comes straight from your own garden. Pack your kid’s basket full of vegetable, herb and flowers seeds. Throw in a pair of kid’s gardening gloves and a trowel. Take a trip to the local nursery and pick up a small plant that will fit in the basket. Spend money on pots and soil rather than plastic toys and candy. This is a great way to start teaching your kids early about where their food comes from. Herbs are easy to grow in pots, so are tomatoes. If you have more space start a small garden and test out your “green thumb.” Happy planting!

3. The “Bug-Catcher’s Basket”

When I was a kid, I loved catching bugs! I loved getting ahold of a butterfly net and exploring the yard to see what little creatures I could find. Hunt down some old mason jars, poke holes in the lid and now you have a bug jar. After the egg hunt, it will be time for the bug hunt! Throw in a bug book, bug pencils and a journal for bug identification. Your little scientist will love this basket!

4. The “Sport’s Lovers” Basket
