As the successor to the Apple II, which was a hit built in a garage, the Apple III was the business computer that would go down in history as an utter failure. The III was so bad, Apple re-released it one year later. They ultimately pulled the model in 1985. The III suffered overheating and boards that would fall out of their sockets. One solution for the loose boards was to pick it up few inches, then slam it down, dropping them back into position. They recalled the first 14,000 Apple IIIs, then worked on every faulty unit they could get them working again. The blame for trouble went to Apple’s marketing department, who drove the production of the III. Estimated losses to Apple were around $60,000,000.00.
